New Zealand Daylight Savings Changes + Windows Vista

Well today is daylight savings with the new changes put in place by the government this year, but my Windows Vista says it’s not until next Sunday. This is a problem, because if I manually change the clock forward, it will then change it forward again next Sunday.

So rather than try to remember that I’ll need to change it back again next week, I Googled around for some fixes, and amazingly turned up almost nothing. This led me to make my own fix via a Registry modification file.

So for those of you in New Zealand like me and using a non updated Windows Vista, simply download the fix below, run it, and restart your computer. If you haven’t already changed your clock forward manually you’ll need to do that (+1 hour).

New Zealand DST Timezone Registry Fix (Right click, Save As)

This patch _may_ work with Windows XP, but I’m not sure. If you wanted to try it, I would recommend backing up your registry first (Start>Run>Regedit>File>Export).

/EDIT: This is confirmed to work with Windows XP too.

Enjoy.

James
