How Apple gets it all wrong, and still is on top -... →
kangster: Apple doesn’t blog; it doesn’t Tweet; it does little on Facebook; it doesn’t engage with its customer base. It doesn’t ask the “community” for feedback or rapidly iterate based on any such feedback or even respond to criticism. Apple’s success is based on building fantastic products. People like fantastic products, even if the company isn’t interested in your opinion about them. In...

Working with Git and Line Endings on Windows and...
If you’ve ever developed on Mac OSX, and then switched to Windows, you’ll notice that as soon as you checkout your repository all of your files are marked as changed. This is due to Git munging your EOL (line endings) - changing them from LF to CRLF. To fix this issue, simply run the following command before cloning; git config --global core.autocrlf false If you’ve already...

PHP/Javascript Character Encoding Issues
Are you programming for an international website? Have you tried using the £ character? I had endless character encoding issues with the pound character and others when posting to the database via an HTML form or AJAX. After a good 3 hours of searching, I found a solution; 1) Ensure you are setting the content type in both your HTML page and in the response headers: <meta...

Javascript Date Object Gotcha
ARGH! When specifying a date using the Javascript date object, months start at 0 — absolutely ridiculous. For example: new Date(2009, 7, 8); does not equal 8th July, 2009, it equals 8th August, 2009 Instead you need new Date(2009, 6, 8); Enjoy.
